MARSHALL KAPPEL is a lifestyle, travel and sports culture photographer.
He received his first camera, an Argus twin-lens, from his father on a camping trip to the White Mountains of Arizona when he was 10 years old; he has never stopped shooting and exploring the world.
His photographic stories are anthropological in nature, drawn from an intuitive and insightful point-of-view, that focus on the people, destinations, emotions and cultures that make sport such a beautiful human pursuit. Intense, intimate and sometimes abstract, Marshall tells eloquent and nuanced stories with his images that connect brands with their consumers.
His images transport viewers into the intimacy of the moment and inside the world of the subject, whether an athlete, a chef or a writer. His images have grit and subtle inspiration that all at once deliver the essence of magnificent human endeavor, the sweeping thrill of travel and the depth of history. In his portraits he delivers the heroic, in his landscapes lyricism and a romance reminiscent of days past, in the heat of action, he captures the raw essence of experience.
Marshall is the 2015 Cycling Media Association Cycling Photographer of the Year as well as the winner of the World Photography Organization’s Annual Award for Spectacular Sporting Photography.
